Timo Lutz

I'm a backend developer based in Dresden. I started in 2002 with an apprenticeship as Fachinformatiker at HVB Systems, the IT arm of HypoVereinsbank. It taught me how software gets built in a bank, but it left me on middle ground: enough to do the job, not the fundamentals you need for real depth.

So I went back to school. Two years of Berufsoberschule gave me first the Fachhochschulreife and then the Allgemeine Hochschulreife, which opened the door to a real university: TU Dresden, one of Germany's Universities of Excellence, where I studied media computer science. Software architecture and distributed systems were the core of those studies, and they have stayed the core of my work: the structure of a system, its boundaries, and how its parts talk to each other, not just the code inside them. I have been building server-side software ever since, on the JVM and in C#, and lately most of it in the cloud.

Since 2021 I work on the e-mobility charging platform of LichtBlick eMobility, the company that started as chargeIT mobility, became Eneco eMobility, and joined LichtBlick SE in 2023. Before that I built e-commerce microservices on Google Cloud, smart-grid device drivers on embedded Linux, and a delivery-tour planning system with its own Android client.

I work by "you build it, you run it": the pipelines that deploy my services are mine too, written and maintained by the team that owns the code, not handed over to a separate DevOps team. What I want to do next is architecture: owning the big picture of a system, from domain boundaries and messaging topology to the platform it runs on, and staying close enough to the code to keep it honest.
